Book mental health training here

These training courses normally cost around £200-300 for a 2 day course, but are being offered free of charge by LCC Public Health. As places are limited, if you are unable to attend or cancel within 10 working days, this will incur a £50.00 charge.

It will not be possible for you to leave early or miss a section of the delivery once you have booked onto the training. Please keep course dates in your diary and arrange cover for any emergencies which might crop up.

WHO IS PROVIDING THE TRAINING?

The training is delivered by a pool of experienced, qualified trainers who come from a variety of backgrounds including; voluntary sector, health, schools, and self-employed trainers, as a result enhancing the delivery and applicable learning to the workplace.

WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID and suicide prevention?

Youth Mental Health First Aid

YMHFA 1/2 Day

An introductory course designed to increase awareness of young people’s mental health and some of the issues that can affect this age group.

YMHFA 2 Day

Provides a more in depth understanding of specific mental health issues and is delivered in four manageable chunks:o What is mental health?o Depression and anxietyo Suicide and psychosiso Self-harm and eating disordersIt focuses on the issues faced by young people today, such as cyber bullying and substance misuse, and teaches how to promote protective factors and good parenting. Completing the two day course qualifies you as a Youth Mental Health First Aider.

Adult Mental Health First Aid

AMHFA 1/2 Day

An introductory course designed to increase mental health awareness and give an understanding of how to look after wellbeing and challenge stigma. When you complete your course you will get a certificate of attendance and a manual to keep and refer to whenever you need

AMHFA 2 Day

A practical skills and awareness course designed to give you:o A deeper understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect people’s wellbeing, including your owno Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issueso Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distresso Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listeningo Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to appropriate support

Suicide Prevention

ASIST

In this course which consists of two days training, ASIST participants learn to:o Understand the ways personal and societal attitudes affect views on suicide and interventionso Provide guidance and suicide first-aid to a person at risk in ways that meet their individual safety needso Identify the key elements of an effective suicide safety plan and the actions required to implement ito Appreciate the value of improving and integrating suicide prevention resources in the community at largeo Recognize other important aspects of suicide prevention including life-promotion and self-care

safeTALK

safeTalk helps participants become alert to suicide. Suicide-alert people are better prepared to connect persons with thoughts of suicide with life-affirming help. Over the course of their training, safeTALK participants will learn to:o Notice and respond to situations where suicide thoughts may be present,o Recognize that invitations for help are often overlooked,o Move beyond the common tendency to miss, dismiss, and avoid suicide,o Apply the TALK steps: Tell, Ask, Listen, KeepSafe, ando Know community resources and how to connect someone with thoughts of suicide to them for further suicide-safer help.
